Microsoft Teams and Power Apps new features and capabilities

Microsoft made 50 product and technology announcements at Microsoft’s Build 2022 developers conference. They are previewing numerous new capabilities for Microsoft Teams and Power Apps developers.

Live Share in Teams

Teams is getting a new feature ‘’Live Share’’. It will allow apps to go beyond passive screen sharing and will enable participants to watch, edit, and create together inside of Teams meetings.

Developers can use new extensions in preview for the Teams Client software development kit (SDK) to extend existing Teams apps and create Live Share scenarios in meetings.

Live Share in Teams is built on top of the Fluid Framework. Microsoft Teams hosting and managing runs on the Azure Fluid Relay Service.

Fluid Framework

Fluid Framework is a fast co-authoring and embedding technology that belongs to Microsoft. Azure Fluid Relay, on the other hand, is a cloud service that supports Fluid Framework clients. In May 2022, experts announced that Fluid Framework, Azure Fluid Relay service, and Azure Fluid client-side SDK will be available later that same year.

Loop

Loop is one of the newer technologies that rely on Fluid Framework. Now developers can start developing their own Loop components using existing Adaptive Cards or building their own.

Teams JS SDK v2

Teams’ developers also can upgrade to Teams JS SDK v2 and App Manifest v1.13 to extend personal tabs of their apps to work on Office and Office.com. Read more details about this, here.

Rebranding of Power Apps portals as Power Pages

Microsoft also announces that they are rebranding Power Apps portals as Power Pages. This developing and hosting platform for building business-centered websites allows low-code developers to publish sites for desktop and mobile. Now, Power Pages will join the Power Platform family as a standalone offering within the Power Platform portfolio.

Express Design feature

Express Design is a new Power Apps feature that allows developers to turn images, documents, Figma design files, and PowerPoint presentations into apps. This feature uses cognitive AI technology to scan the inputs and produce working app controls backed with data storage.
