This June 2021, Microsoft is announcing a new category of intelligent speakers for Teams Rooms on Windows.

What are intelligent speakers for Teams Rooms?

Intelligent speakers are intelligent peripherals for Microsoft Teams Rooms and are designed to bring high quality audio experiences to remote participants. Speakers are optimized for Cortana voice assistance to offer touch-less experience. With this technology, users can clearly hear all the voices in the room. Some additional features are:

1. Transcription with speaker attribution

In a Teams’ meeting room, intelligent speakers can identify up to ten people in live transcription enabling clear voice capture of participants. This feature allows you to forget about note taking. Whether you are working remotely, or in the office, you will be able to follow along who said what in the room during and after the meeting.

2. Insights by Microsoft Graph

With the integration of Microsoft Graph and live transcription, you can have access to people-centric data and insights to contextualize the transcription. Microsoft Graph is able to know who the speaker is, and the conversation can be more accurately transcribed.

3. Privacy and security

All your company’s voice data and insights will be securely stored in the Office 365 Cloud. You can maintain control of all the information and the ability to delete it at any time.
Users can turn on or off the capture of voice data for each meeting. Additionally, admins have full control to turn on/off people identification through voice recognition feature across the organization.

Availability of intelligent speakers for Teams Rooms

The first two partners to launch intelligent speakers are EPOS with Capture 5 and Yealink with MS Speech and can be purchased individually and in bundles.

You can access to intelligent speakers through Teams Rooms Standard or Premium licenses and for now, this innovation is only available in English in the United States, but more regions will be added soon.
