SharePoint is constantly evolving and improving for consumers to have a better end user experience. Therefore, they produced ‘modern experiences’. These were designed with the objective of being more attractive, flexible, and easy to use.

There are a few predetermined modern experiences, such as:

  • The SharePoint Office 365 homepage
  • Most of the lists and libraries
  • New homepages in group and communication sites
  • New pages in general
  • Site content and site usage

However, classic SharePoint sites such as blogs, wikis, publishing, and web part pages are not allowed to be presented in a modern user interface. What they can do is to host modern pages through SharePoint in Office 365. In this blog post we’ll tell you all about it.

Page transformation can be used whether you want to transform pages for your users, or if you want to have full control on the transformation process.

PowerShell and .Net are the two recommended techniques. The first one being used in case you want to modernize pages for multiple site collections. And the second one, commonly used when integrating page transformation into existing services or tools.

Page transformation supports wikis, blogs, webpart pages and publishing pages, in the following SharePoint versions: 2010*2013, 2016, 2019 and SharePoint Online.

*Note: To transform SharePoint 2010 pages, you must use SharePointPnPPowerShellOnline / PnP Modernization Framework legacy versions.

If you want to get started in the page transformation process, you have access to a SharePoint look book, where you can get inspiration to renovate your pages. Here you can find templates and ideas to reinvent your intranet, but without the prolonged process of coding.
