Network Solutions Email Migration to Exchange Online for StrategicNerve

Industry: Consulting

Service: Microsoft Exchange Online Migration

Executive Summary:

StrategicNerve was operating seven email mailboxes in a fully hosted Network Solutions environment. While the platform provided basic email hosting, the organization was experiencing ongoing technical friction, inconsistent support responsiveness, limited administrative visibility, and annual hosting costs of approximately $2,000 that no longer reflected the value delivered.

Team Venti recommended migrating StrategicNerve to a dedicated Microsoft 365 tenant with Exchange Online. This solution would replace the legacy hosted email environment with a modern, cloud-based platform that gives StrategicNerve direct control over its users, mailboxes, domains, and administration while establishing a scalable foundation for future Microsoft 365 security and productivity services.

StrategicNerve’s Current Environment:

Mailboxes

7 total mailboxes

Email host

Network Solutions

Hosting model

Fully hosted third-party environment

Microsoft 365 licensing

No Microsoft 365 licensing included

Annual email hosting cost

Approximately $2,000 per year

Administrative control

Limited by third-party hosted model

Platform condition

Older, server-based Exchange environment

StrategicNerve’s existing email service was billed separately from Microsoft 365 licensing and delivered limited flexibility beyond basic hosted email. The company had limited direct visibility into the platform and depended on its provider for administration, troubleshooting, and changes.

Business Challenge:

StrategicNerve needed to address several operational and financial concerns within its existing email environment:

Inconsistent support experience
Ongoing technical issues and uneven support responsiveness created unnecessary friction for users and administrators.
Rising cost with limited return
At approximately $2,000 annually for hosting alone, the current platform did not compare favorably with the capabilities available through Microsoft 365.
Aging infrastructure
The legacy, server-based Exchange environment presented concerns around reliability, feature availability, and access to modern security capabilities.
Limited administrative control
A third-party hosted platform restricted StrategicNerve's ability to manage mailboxes, users, domains, and future changes directly.
No clear path for modernization
The environment did not provide an integrated foundation for broader Microsoft 365 services, including enhanced email protection, collaboration, identity management, and productivity tools.

Recommended Solution:

Team Venti recommended a full migration from Network Solutions to a dedicated Microsoft 365 tenant using Exchange Online.
Exchange Online would provide StrategicNerve with a modern email platform managed within its own Microsoft 365 tenant. Rather than relying on a third-party host for day-to-day administration and support, StrategicNerve would gain direct ownership and visibility of its environment.
Creation and configuration of a dedicated Microsoft 365 tenant.
Selection and procurement guidance for the appropriate Microsoft 365 licensing.
Migration of all seven mailboxes from Network Solutions to Exchange Online.
Preservation of existing mailbox data during migration.
DNS planning and coordination to route email services through Microsoft 365.
Migration cutover support designed to limit disruption to approximately 30 minutes.
Post-migration validation and user support.
Security recommendations, including evaluation of Microsoft Defender for Office 365.

This investment consists of two components:

Investment AreaDescription
One-time professional servicesFixed-fee migration services provided by Team Venti, including assessment, planning, tenant configuration, mailbox migration, DNS coordination, cutover, and post-migration validation
Recurring Microsoft 365 licensingPer-user Microsoft 365 or Exchange Online licenses provided by 365 Cloud Store, based on the final license selection and future service requirements

StrategicNerve’s current annual spend is approximately $2,000 for Network Solutions email hosting alone. The Microsoft 365 solution should be evaluated not only as a replacement hosting cost, but as an investment in a supported, manageable platform with the ability to expand into security and productivity capabilities.

Steve Hindman from StrategicNerve evaluated seven competing providers before selecting Team Venti, citing consistent, market-fair pricing (versus quotes up to 3x higher elsewhere), and a migration that was executed exactly as scoped, with no surprises.

Your migration fee made sense.
Theirs didn't. That was a tiebreaker.

Project Approach:

Team Venti took a consultative, low-risk approach designed to give StrategicNerve confidence before implementation.

1
Assessment and discovery

Team Venti reviewed StrategicNerve's current hosted email environment, including mailbox count, hosting arrangement, licensing position, migration dependencies, and expected user impact. The team also identified key areas of concern, including mailbox data integrity, DNS propagation, downtime, and business continuity.

2
Licensing guidance

Because StrategicNerve did not have Microsoft 365 licensing in place, Team Venti provided guidance to help determine the appropriate licensing model for Exchange Online and the organization's future needs.

This approach allowed StrategicNerve to make an informed decision based on current email requirements while preserving the option to add Microsoft 365 security and productivity capabilities over time.

3
Migration planning

Team Venti developed a migration plan that addressed the technical and user-facing components of the transition, including:

  • Mailbox migration sequencing.
  • Domain and DNS readiness.
  • Cutover timing.
  • User communication and expectations.
  • Business continuity considerations.
  • Validation procedures after migration.
4
Migration and cutover

Following project kickoff, Team Venti migrated the email environment to Exchange Online, coordinated the DNS cutover, and validated mail flow and mailbox access. The migration approach was designed to preserve email data and minimize interruption to users.

5
Post-migration optimization

After the migration, Team Venti continued supporting StrategicNerve with best-practice guidance and recommendations for strengthening email security, including Microsoft Defender for Office 365.

Outcome:

StrategicNerve successfully moved from Network Solutions to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online, replacing its legacy hosted email environment with a dedicated Microsoft 365 tenant.

The project delivered a more modern and manageable email platform, reduced dependency on the previous third-party host, and created a foundation for future Microsoft 365 security improvements. StrategicNerve also received continued guidance on email security, including Microsoft Defender for Office 365.

After evaluating seven providers, StrategicNerve selected Team Venti and expressed high satisfaction with the team’s professionalism, communication, responsiveness, and technical expertise throughout the engagement.

❝
It was 100% as promised. It was very smooth. There were no surprises.
