What are Copilot Agents? Leveraging AI Agents in Teams and Power Platform

Table of Contents
Available in Copilot Studio since 2025, Copilot Agents transform how your organization collaborates by automating workflows without extra steps. Built through Copilot Studio, they act as proactive digital workers, allowing you to focus on strategy and creative tasks.
What are Copilot Agents and how are they built? In this blog we will cover agent basics, Power Platform builds, and Microsoft Teams rollout tips.
What Are Copilot Agents?
Agents in Copilot are AI tools designed to perform specific tasks or processes. If Copilot is the interface, AI agents become the apps of an AI environment. By connecting to your organization’s data and knowledge base, they can automate tasks with minimal input from the user.
Agents can respond to real-time inquiries or function independently, performing specific actions based on data and predefined objectives. By running your organization’s processes, they can adjust to new issues and gradually improve.
Copilot agents can be used in different ways and situations:
- Task Automation
- Data Analytics
- Decision-making
- Adapting to Challenges
Benefits of using Copilot Agents
- Enhanced Productivity: Free up your time to focus on strategy by assigning everyday, repetitive tasks to agents.
- Improved accuracy and consistency: Ensure accuracy and consistency in your operations with the agents’ precise algorithm
- Personalized assistance: Receive relevant suggestions and solutions with the Agents’ personalized assistance.

Building AI Agents in Power Platform
In 2025, Microsoft introduced agent-based automation to Copilot Studio, allowing users to create agent apps directly within Power Apps. Agents use Power Automate to generate workflow automation and data processing with little manual intervention.
To create agents in Power Platform, simply start in Copilot Studio by describing the actions you want the agent to perform, specifying instructions, triggers, knowledge and tools. Add agent flows for scheduled or event-triggered automations which integrate with Power Automate and Power Apps.
When creating instructions, it’s important to be specific and define goals. Here are some AI agent best practices shared by Microsoft:
- Use specific, clear wording when creating instructions.
- Verify all instructions to ensure they meet a goal.
- Keep the sentences simple for each of the instructions, avoid providing too many details in a single sentence.
- Make sure the logic flow in the instructions is easy to follow. Keep instructions in line, maintaining a logical sequence.
You can also leverage the agent templates available in Copilot studio and customize them to fit your specific needs.
Integrating with Microsoft Teams
After creating an agent in Copilot studio, you can make it available for users in Teams and Microsoft 365. By enabling Power Platform apps to be added to Teams, you can:
- Integrate agents in Microsoft Teams.
- Customize their appearance.
- Install the agent for yourself.
- Get a shareable link so others can install it.
- Add agents to a Teams channel.
- Customize privacy details.
Getting Started
Copilot Agents empower your organization to work smarter by embedding AI directly into daily tools for Teams and Power Platform users. Teams deploying them free up hours weekly on routine tasks. Start with Copilot Studio templates, publish to Teams channels, and scale across your organization.
